Online deals for your Do It Yourself projects
Here are some opportunities for great online deals to help with your do it yourself projects and more. If you're leery of shopping online - don't be! All of the sources I'm recommending are legitimate companies that want your business, today and tomorrow, and zealously protect your transactions and personal information. You won't be spammed by them, or suddenly appear on a dozen unrelated mailing lists. If you've followed me on some of my home improvement or larger do it yourself projects, you know I plan ahead. Online deals are out there, but it's not like going to Home Depot for an immediate need! If you're about to rebuild a room and install flooring, you have the chance to purchase your materials online, and have them delivered to your home at huge savings while you're doing the prep work! I've saved more than 60% of my material costs this way and so can you. The exotic cherry plywood for my living room cabinetry wasn't even available locally - I had to order it in advance, but at least I didn't have to move 35 sheets of plywood myself! The wall murals I've showcased were a great online deal and delivered in only a couple of days - way before I had the furniture moved and the walls prepped. During this next winter, you can get great online deals by ordering your spring gardening supplies in the off-season. I'll be honest and tell you now that I have partnerships with each of these companies that pay me a commission for each sale I refer - not much, but something! This is the only source of revenue for this site - I don't charge you anything for my tips, advice, or plans. I'm going to group sources by their offerings and specialties, and why I recommend them to you.
General MerchandiseI've never completed a room make over without needing a new rug, lamp, or something to accentuate and draw attention to our new area. Maybe what we see or buy is the reason for starting a project - it's too nice for the room, we've got to do something! Online deals may be the key. | What can I say about Walmart - they have Everything! In my family, we can't go a week without making a pilgrimage; now, we use this link (yes, I get the savings and a 1-4% commission on my purchases!) to order weekly consumable hard goods. We just go to the customer service desk to pick it up without having to go all around the store. |
Look at these metal tiles! I'm ordering these in white and copper for our long overdue kitchen make over. The Home Marketplace offers $2.99 Shipping on all orders over $55, and really does have it all, whether for Kitchen, Bath, Bedroom, Laundry, Garage, Garden, or Home Office. Well worth a visit, but you'll want to stay!
Flooring I visited with my neighbor a little while ago and got to watch him install wood flooring. I was impressed! It's so beautiful and warm in comparison to my ceramic tile and carpeted rooms. I've convinced my wife to pull out the ratty carpet in the hallway (we can't keep it clean and fresh looking with all the heavily constricted traffic!), and replace it with engineered bird's eye maple flooring. Both these companies offer impressive online deals. | Lumber Liquidators has a Price Guarantee: if you find the same grade flooring, warranty and shipping costs from another dealer, at a lower price, upon verification Lumber Liquidators will beat the price. They have more than 155 locations in North America and a convenient map to find the closest location where you can pick up your order with no shipping cost. |
FastFloors offers up to 70 % off name brand flooring and free shipping. My neighbor used them and raves about them. Judging by how well his project turned out (he used their site to learn how!) I have to recommend this company. Not only do they have a great library to help do it yourself projects, they offer more than just wood flooring. Ceramics, laminates, cork, bamboo, and even a wide selection of area rugs or throw rugs make this a one-stop-shopping experience.
Contemporary Accent Furniture I've added this section to help you finish a room with a dash and splash of color, lighting, and flair. Have fun here, it's all about style and personality! | I sat in this chair in a lighting store's gallery and asked where it came from. Adesso! Well, I knew who they were because my wife had ordered an absolutely stunning eco-friendly floor lamp that finished our family room after the painting, blinds, and wall murals. I want that chair, and everything else they sell! |
| Wholesale Furniture Brokers is a gold mine! Look at that stunning accent coffee table - you could easily build a room around that one piece of furniture. Of course, you could accompany it with their elegant sofas and recliners too! | |
Outdoors I've spent most of my time and energy outside! I've rooted out malignant vegetation to create ordered paths and gardens, built stonework projects for interesting elevation changes and for placing fountains, and added a gazebo at the end of my pool as my crowning achievement. For me, being outdoors is where I want to be, and finding the finishing touches is finding great online deals because my local retailers are too limited in selection. | I love this picture and product! I have one and it's a great way to enjoy your patio, deck, or gazebo. With seasoned wood, this fire-pit keeps the chill off, and lets you cook hot dogs and roast marshmallows. Visit the Plow & Hearth Outlet! You'll find wonderful hummingbird feeders, song-bird nests, and cute snow bags to protect your plants through the winter. They also have a rich assortment of fireplace grills and cookers for inside the home when it gets too cold for outdoor living. |
| Low level illumination will transform your gardens, paths, decks, and gazebo at night. I've spent tons of money on my exterior lighting, but nighttime is so special, it's worth the cost. These solar powered lights let you position the panel away from shade so the lights will shine where they couldn't normally be positioned. That's way too cool! | |
Window TreatmentsOne of the best ways to quickly add appeal in your home is with window treatments. It's amazing how much real estate windows take up in a home, and how our choice of vertical blinds finished our family room after it's make over. The wall murals were stunning, but it needed the color coordination of paint and blinds to bring it together. I'm happy to pass on these great online deals - this is where I got them and where I'll go again. Custom blinds and draperies require careful measurements. I don't know where you shop, but for these, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks for the manufacturer to cut. Let's face it, if you have to wait (and you will!), compare these prices; you'll find these online deals are really great prices! | For my family room, I chose these vertical blinds and valences for the large sliding glass doors, the large windows over the kitchen sinks, and the smaller window from the front porch. This color is Vienna Green and was a spectacular success with the Sea Mist Green paint and murals! As a guy, not knowing anything about the finer points of interior design, I loved the 3 dimensional effect of the embossing and how the valences projected. |
| That room was so stunning, I looked around for other opportunities. I have an older home with a small bathroom in the "masters suite" that is tiled in a beige color. There's nothing I can do to make it larger except trick the eye with these stunning bronze mirrored vertical blinds. Wala - the bathroom appears twice as large! These blinds don't use a valence so measurements were crucial to fit them into the window recess. | |
If you've spent as much time improving your home, your gardens, or building a deck or gazebo, these stores can help maintain, or put the finishing touches inside or outside the house. Online deals are a great way to save money, and products delivered to your door are a great way to save time and energy! Check back often. As I find online deals from quality merchants, I'll share them with you!
Coming up next!I'm gathering sources for exotics. Right now, I only have phone numbers for specialty shops that supply uncommon metal and woodworking tools, or exotic species of hardwood for your do it yourself projects. There is no way I could have built any of my boats, or re engineered my tools without their services, but they're behind the times when it comes to online deals. One is so special, I'm offering to build their web presence for free just so you can find them - it's a work in progress but slow because they've never used a computer!
